Marlatt Leads Blades To Comeback Win
The Dresden Kings could not hold down the Blenheim Blades, and Blades erased a three-goal deficit en route to a 5-4 win.
Blenheim never lead in the game until Cam Aitken netted the winner with less than a minute to go in regulation. Aitken’s line, which included Drew Marlatt and Kirk McKillop were unstoppable in the game. McKillop potted the game tying goal, with Marlatt assisting on both.
Drew Marlatt, a Windsor Spitfires draft pick, was in on every Blades goal, collecting two goals and three assists to lead Blenheim. Marlatt scored the first of his two goals at 16:54 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Dresden. Cam Aitken assisted on the tally. Marlatt’s next tally made the score 4-3 Dresden with 7:27 left in the third period.
In total, Marlatt racked up five points, while Aitken and McKillop each had four points in the win.
Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 1:19 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.
The Blades’ offense rang up 44 shots on the Kings’ net.
Dresden made Blenheim’s netminders to work all game long, racking up 40 shots and forcing 36 saves. Eric Stewardson made 27 stops and Justin Pratt made nine.
The Kings were helped by Alex Ritchie, who had one goal. Ritchie scored 5:10 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Dresden. Myers picked up the assist. Dresden also got points from Myers, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Taylor Sisson also scored for Dresden. More assists for Dresden came via Jay Piett, Derrik VanEvery, Jesse Allen, and Macks Holmes, who contributed one a piece.
The Blades totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. For Blenheim, Pete Mosher was ejected from the game. Brent Paxton made 39 saves for Dresden on 44 shots. The Kings totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Dresden ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Derek Daly was ejected from the game.
