Blenheim’s Breanne Nicholas took home a major piece of hardware this week, being named the OUA Shiels Division Rookie of the Year.

The Western University Mustangs fullback, was also named to the Shiels Division All-Star team after tying for fifth in OUA scoring with 45 points this season.

Chatham’s Elizabeth Hunninck, who plays for the Brock Badgers was also named a Shiels Division All-Star. Hunninck is a Chatham-Kent Secondary School graduate and was Nicholas’ teammate with the Kent Havoc. Hunninck is finishing her fourth season as a member of the Brock Badgers.

In the summer, Nicholas also competed at the Four Nations Cup in England, winning a championship as a member of Team Canada’s Under-20 team.

The rugby season is over for both Chatham-Kent athletes as Hunninck and the Badgers failed to qualify for the playoffs, while Nicholas and the Mustangs were eliminated by the Queens Gaels in the OUA semi-finals.
