Nolan, Queens Headed To 2015 CIS Championships

Queens-GaelsIt may be over a year from now, but Chatham’s Sydnee Nolan will play an important role in preparing her team to host the 2015 CIS National Rugby Championships at Queens University.

Nolan, currently in her freshman year with Queens, has started at scrum-half in each of her team’s games this season, leading Queens to a Top 10 National ranking and a spot in the OUA semi-final.

For Queens’ rugby program, successfully winning the bid to host the National Championships means

“We are thrilled to host the 2015 CIS women’s rugby championship,” Leslie Dal Cin, Queens director of athletics and recreation, said in a Queens news release. “We look forward to taking the passion and commitment displayed by the incredible women’s rugby student-athletes and igniting our volunteers, fans and alumni to deliver a premier CIS event that showcases our campus and our communities’ interest for high level sporting events. Hosting national championships is a priority for Queen’s and is an important part of our vision. The opportunity for our student-athletes to receive home-crowd support on Nixon Field will be an exceptional and memorable experience.”

Queens finished with a perfect 5-0 record in the OUA Russell Division this season.

Nolan, a graduate of Ursuline College in Chatham, is studying arts and science at Queens.

Queens will face Western in the OUA semi-finals this Saturday.
