Sharks Hold Off Kings
After climbing out to a four goal lead, the Wheatley Sharks narrowly held off the Dresden Kings’ comeback attempt, going on to pick up a 6-5 win Monday on home ice.
Chatham resident Macks Holmes scored for the Dresden Kings on the powerplay to open the game, assisted by Taylor Sisson and Wade Esselment.
Jimmy Ciacelli and Frank Ciacelli would answer back for Wheatley, before Brendon Anger rounded out the second period scoring. The trio scored quickly in the final minutes of the second to give Wheatley the lead heading into the third.
In the third period, Cale Phibbs scored a hat trick for the Wheatley Sharks to put the team ahead 6-2 after Macks Holmes scored his second of the game for Dresden.
The Sharks would then get themselves into penalty problems, allowing three powerplay goals in the dying minutes of the game as Kevin Ritzer and Derek Daly would each score twice.
Everitt Omstead shut the door for the Sharks after that, picking up the win in net for Wheatley.
Wheatley now has a week off before hosting the Belle River Canadiens next Monday. The Dresden Kings host Essex Friday before travelling to Blenheim Sunday.
