Wallaceburg Wins! Lakers Nab First Victory
The Wallaceburg Lakers grabbed their first win of the 2013-2014 season after a terrible 0-15 start. With nearly two months of losses under their belts, the Lakers defeated the Blenheim Blades 3-2 Wednesday night on home ice.
Wallaceburg jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period as Lucais Meyskens and Justin Lindsay scored for the Lakers. Kirk McKillop would close the gap to 2-1, but Wallaceburg would carry the lead into the first intermission.
In the second period, Justin Whitson potted Wallaceburg’s third goal of the game, which would eventually hold up as the game winning goal.
After Cam Aitken pulled the Blades within one goal in the third, Wallaceburg goalie Joel Sowinski, who has been shell shocked much of the season, shut the door for the Lakers and collected the win. Sowinski made 41 saves in the game.
Wallaceburg will look for their second win next week, as they have a busy schedule including games against Dresden, Alvinston, and Amherstburg.
