73s Trounce Kings
The Dresden Kings couldn’t snap the dominance of the Essex 73s, as Essex defended their home ice defeating Dresden 7-2.
Dylan Solecki and Great Lakes league leading scorer Corey Beaulieu opened the barrage in the first, putting Essex out to a 2-0 lead after one period.
Macks Holmes, Dresden’s October nominee for player of the month, got the Kings on the board early in the second period, but Beaulieu, Jordan Ryan, and Tyler Scott helped the Essex 73s push ahead.
Down 5-1 entering the third period, Dresden tried to chip away at the Essex lead, but a penalty allowed the 73s’ Dallas Pereira to score a powerplay goal and put the game out of reach.
Jeremy Griffore would score for Dresden, but it was too little too late for the Kings who fell to 5-12-1-1 on the season.
Currently, Dresden is aligned to face the Essex 73s in the opening round of the Great Lakes playoffs, and will have to make up significant ground if they want to avoid that match up.
Essex travels to face the Wallaceburg Lakers Wednesday, while Dresden will play a home and home with Belle River over the weekend.
