Andy Fantuz Entering 101st Grey Cup On A High
Chatham’s Andy Fantuz waited until his final before the Grey Cup to put together his best offensive performance of the year. Facing the Toronto Argonauts in the East Final, Fantuz made 11 catches for 114-yards and 2 touchdowns for the Hamilton Tiger Cats, helping them advance to the 101st Grey Cup.
Fantuz was also named the CFL’s Canadian Player of the Week after his performance, sending the receiver into the Grey Cup on a high.
Now, Fantuz will travel with his Tiger Cats to attempt to defeat his former team, the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the 101st Grey Cup this Sunday, November 24. For Fantuz, the decision to leave Saskatchewan was never easy, but it’s one he’s been pleased with.
“I’ve been happy with my decision,” said Fantuz following the Division Championship game. “I miss playing there, and my teammates, and the fans and all that, but I knew I was coming to a great environment here. I live and die with these guys, we pour sweat together and the fans are great,” said Fantuz about his Tiger Cats teammates and the city of Hamilton.
In 2007, Fantuz won his only Grey Cup, with the Roughriders, when he was named the game’s Most Valuable Canadian. That game was played on neutral ground at the Rogers Center in Toronto. Entering Regina to face the Saskatchewan Roughriders this Sunday on their home turf however, won’t be easy, something Fantuz is well aware of.
“It’s going to be pandemonium,” Fantuz said about the environment at the 101st Grey Cup. “I’m not sure what to expect, but it’s going to be nuts.”
Kick off for the 101st Grey Cup between the Hamilton Tiger Cats and Saskatchewan Roughriders is 6pm, Sunday, November 24.
