Back-To-Back For The Wallaceburg Lakers
The Wallaceburg Lakers took two months to win their first game of the Great Lakes Junior C season; now, the Lakers have won back to back games.
After shocking the powerhouse Essex 73s last week, Wallaceburg beat the Blenheim Blades on home ice Wednesday 5-2, the team’s second win this season against Blenheim, and just third total. After Wallaceburg’s first goal the ice was flooded with more than 200 Teddy Bears which the team will donate to Salvation Army and St. Vincent de Paul.
Frank Saputo scored two first period goals, and Ryan Gruszka notched what would stand as the game winning goal in the opening frame, to put the Lakers ahead 3-1 after one period. Dylan Muzzatti had the Blenheim Blades goal in the opening period.
Justin Rossignol scored the only goal in the second period, pulling the Blades within one.
In the third however, Ryan Gruszka and veteran Scott Lubbers each scored to put the game away.
Goalie Joel Sowinski again was excellent for the Lakers in net, stopping 30 shots in the win.
Wallaceburg again has more than a week off, before they host the Essex 73s Thursday, December 5 at Walpole Island.
