Ferguson Tricks Flyers

Chatham-Maroons-Jersey-NewThe Chatham Maroons continued their climb up the GOJHL’s Western Conference standings Sunday night defeating the Leamington Flyers 5-4. Defenseman Tanner Ferguson had his best game of the season, scoring a hat trick in the win to help the Maroons grab the win.

In the opening period, Chatham would get out to an early 2-0 lead after Tanner Ferguson scored a pair of powerplay goals. Mitchell Amante would score late in the first, and Wheatley’s Kyle Quick would score in the second period to send the game to the third period tied at two.

Ferguson would cap off his hat trick to open the third period, and then pick up his fourth point of the game, assisting on Ian Faubert’s marker, putting the Maroons ahead 4-2 midway through the third.

Leamington however wasn’t done, as Alex Seguin brought the Flyers within one. Chatham got insurance minutes later when Brayden Hopkins buried his 10th of the season.

Along with Ferguson’s hat trick, Steven Szekesy also had three points, all assists, while Ian Faubert ended the night with three points collecting a goal and two assists.

Chatham now has a week off before hosting the St. Marys Lincolns next Sunday, December 1.
