Five Questions With Colin McArthur
McArthur, a UCC Lancers alumni, who also enjoys darts, golf, and running, is studying Golf Management at Fanshawe. McArthur, who was named the OCAA Men’s Soccer player of the week late in the soccer season, helped the Fanshawe Falcons to a fourth place finish in Ontario.
Below are Colin McArthur’s answers to CKSN’s Five Questions about sports.
1. What is your career sports highlight/top memory?
My Career highlight thus far is when i scored the game winner against Sheridan College who was ranked number one in Ontario. I scored the goal with only 2 minutes remaining in the game after we had been tied 0-0.
2. Who is your favourite professional sports team and athlete?
My favorite pro sports team is easily Arsenal FC from London England, they play in the Barclays Premier League, I am a die hard fan and havent missed watching a game since I can remember. My favorite athlete from that team would have to be Aaron Ramsey, he is only a year older than me and he overcame a near career ending leg break a couple of years ago, but has now recovered and is currently the best performing player on the team.
3. If you could achieve one thing/goal in sports, what would it be?
If I could achieve one goal in sports it would be to get even a tryout with Arsenal, I know they have one of the most prestigious youth academies in soccer but that would be a dream come true.
4. Who has been your biggest sports influence and why?
My biggest sports influence would have to be Zinadine Zidane, sadly everyone will only know him from his 2006 World Cup headbunt on the Italian player, but since I had been following soccer before that incident I knew that he was and still is regarded as one of the greatest players in history, his style of play and how he goes about his attitude on the pitch and what he has achieved against all odds is remarkable. He was the most calm and collected player I have ever seen play the game.
5. What do you love most about playing sports?
What I love about playing soccer is the challenge that is in front of me, I have a player in front of me and I know that all I have to do is beat him and score, doesn’t matter how pretty or how ugly it is, I need to score. I love being on a team and getting to know all my teammates and going out and partying with them, it actually translates on the pitch when you become more comfortable with your teammates. I love playing everyday, Ill hardly ever miss a practice and games are always the part of the week that I look forward too.
