Record Waiting To Be Broken
With the Chatham Maroons heating up, it warrants a minute to look back at one of the best Maroons teams of all time. The 1999-2000 Chatham Maroons opened up their Western Junior B season by rattling off 25 straight wins.
It was a streak that last until almost December, before the Leamington Flyers snapped Chatham’s streak.
Sound unreal? Currently, one GOJHL team is challenging to break that streak, as the Caledonia Corvairs of the GOJHL’s Golden Horseshoe Conference are off to an incredible 19-0 start, and show no signs of slowing down.
Only one year removed from a Sutherland Cup title, the 1999-2000 Chatham Maroons featured a number of stars including NHL draft pick Colton Fretter and several future OHL, NCAA, and minor pro players. That same squad also won the Western Junior B title that season, part of Chatham’s four year reign as the leagues top team.
The magic night for the Caledonia Corvairs would come December 6, when if they continue to win, the Corvairs would collect their 26th consecutive victory to open the season.
