The month of May had more junior hockey news, with a new MAroons head coach being named, a trio of Wallaceburg products shining at the next level, and much more.

Here are your highlights from May 2013 from all corners of sports in Chatham-Kent:

  • Davis Named New Maroons Head Coach: We may have jumped the gun on this announcement, but CKSN was the first to report Mark Davis had been named the new Chatham Maroons bench boss after former coach Bill Bowler stepped down.
  • Pataki Signs With The Queens Gaels: The most prolific scorer to come out of the Kent football league in years, Jonah Pataki, chose his school, signing with the Queens University Gaels football program.
  • Herreweyers On NCAA All-Rookie Team: Wallaceburg’s Zach Herreweyers closed out an excellent first NCAA field lacrosse season with the Loyola University Greyhounds by being named to the ECAC All-Rookie team.
  • Griffith OHL First Team All-Star: After a spectacular season where Seth Griffith was nearly unstoppable for the London Knights, the sniper was named an OHL First Team All-Star.
  • Schaafsma Wins CHL Title: Blenheim’s Jamie Schaafsma won a Central Hockey League championship as a member of the Allen Americans.
