Chatham-Kent Sports Year in Review: April

- Cook Commits To Campbellsville: Tilbury’s Jessica Cook committed to an NCAA swimming scholarship with the Campbellsville University Tigers. Cook previously swam with the Tilbury Vikings.
- OHL Rumours Swirl In Chatham-Kent: The Municipality of Chatham-Kent leaked a document suggesting the community was in negotiations with an OHL franchise. Although hopes were high, the rumours eventually fizzled.
- Bartlett Named Western Volleyball Head Coach: Chatham’s Melissa Bartlett, who had been coaching at CKSS and with the Ballhawks, was named the Western University Mustangs women’s volleyball head coach.
- Maroons Eliminated: After a first place finish in the regular season, the Chatham Maroons fell to the London Nationals in the Western Conference GOJHL final.
- Chatham-Kent Players Selected In OHL Draft: Several local hockey players including Travis Konecny, Brendan Johnston, Drew Marlatt, Trent Fox, and James McEwan were all taken in the OHL Priority Selection draft.
- Allin Named Laurier’s Top Athlete: Adding to his ever growing trophy case, Chatham-Kent basketball player Max Allin was named the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks male athlete of the year.
- Kucera, Earle Complete Perfect Season: Chatham-Kent Secondary School badminton duo Lee Kucera and Julie Earle win every tournament they enter including Kent and SWOSSAA to complete a perfect season.
- TJ Brodie To Play For Canada: After a lockout shortened season ended for Dresden’s TJ Brodie with the Calgary Flames, the young blueliner was named to Team Canada’s World Championship roster.
- Whitson Wins Two Medals: Competing for Canada’s para-soccer and sledge hockey teams, Chatham’s Derek Whitson wins two international medals in under a week.
