Chatham-Kent January Athlete of the Month Voting
The Chatham-Kent Sports Network is opening monthly voting to select CKSN’s Chatham-Kent Athlete of the Month, each and every month in 2014.
Below are our nominees for January 2014. Voting will continue until Thursday, February 6, with the winner being named Friday, February 7. Poll votes, comments below, as well as Facebook comments (www.facebook.com/cksportsnetwork) and Twitter Retweets (www.twitter.com/cksportsnetwork) will be counted as votes. Nominees in Alphabetical Order and Monthly Highlights:
Max Allin (Chatham) – 17 points January 11 in a loss to Western, 23-points and 10 rebounds in January 15 win over Brock. 16-points, 8-rebounds in January 18 loss to McMaster. Was the Wilfrid Laurier Male Athlete of the Week for the Week ending January 19. 17-points, 9 rebounds in January 22 win over Waterloo. 35-points, 12 rebounds in January 25 loss to Guelph, for second double-double of the month.
TJ Brodie (Dresden) – Had a goal and five assists for the Calgarly Flames, including the overtime winner for the Flames on January 28 against Chicago. Had a four game point streak, the longest of his NHL career, and never played less than 20 minutes per game, topping out at 35:42 January 18 against Vancouver.
Shauney Fischer (Wallaceburg) – Started each game she played for York in January. 6-points, 4-rebounds January 25 loss to Carleton. 6-points, 4-rebounds in January 24 loss to Ottawa. 5-points, 4-rebounds in January 18 win over Laurentian. Topped all scorers with 13-points, 5-rebounds in January 11 win over Ryerson. 4-points, 7-rebounds in January 10 win over Toronto. 6-points, 9-rebounds in January 4 loss to Queens.
Dane Fox (Thamesville) – Hit the 50 goal mark in OHL scoring, becoming the fastest player to do so in 20 years, scoring goals 50 and 51 in only his 43rd game with the Erie Otters. Signed an NHL contract with the Vancouver Canucks. Had a 4 goal and 3 goal night, and totalled 10 goals and 6 assists in 10 January games.
Jared Hansen (Blenheim) – 28-points January 20 win over Ridgetown, 21-points in January 16 win over CCHS, 21-points in January 15 win over Pain Court, 14-points in January 14 win over Tilbury, 16-points in January 9 loss to Wallaceburg. Averaging 20-points per game and leading Blenheim to a 4-1 record in January.
Chad Laprise (Chatham) – Appeared on the UFC’s, The Ultimate Fighter: Nations, Canada vs. Australia. Won his fight January 29 by decision over Chris Indich, marking his first UFC win, and improving his overall professional record to 8-0.
Ian Smart (Chatham) – MVP of John Thrasher Tournament in Sarnia. Scored 17-points per game including in the championship. Scored 24 points in January 16 win over John McGregor leading all scorers. Averaged 11.75 points in silver medal performance at Fanshawe Tournament, including a double-double and triple-double performance.
Katreena Whiteye (Ridgetown/Moraviantown) – UCC Lancers to a perfect record this season, and also is the only 1999 born player competing on the Bluewater Hawks ‘AA’ team, which is filled with 1996-1998 born players. Helped Hawks to silver at Scarborough Tournament. In high school hockey as a grade 9, two goals in 5-0 win over Ridgetown January 16. Goal and an assist in January 13 3-0 win over CKSS, and a goal and an assist in January 9 5-2 win over Dresden.

Wonderful young man
