Thamesville’s Dane Fox became the fastest OHL player to hit the 50-goal mark in more than 20 years.

Fox scored goals 49, 50, and 51 Sunday night in a 9-0 Erie Otters win over the Windsor Spitfires.

Playing in his 43rd game of the OHL regular season, Fox, who is a former Chatham-Kent Cyclones star, was the fastest player to reach the 50-goal mark since Pat Peake scored 50-goals in 33 games in 1992-1993 as a member of the Detroit Jr. Red Wings.

Team Canada Olympian, and New York Islanders superstar was the last player to hit the 50-goal mark at Fox’s pace, scoring his 50th, of a 72 goal campaign in 44 games while playing for the Oshawa Generals in 2006-2007.

Fox will undoubtedly break the Erie Otters single season goal scoring record in the coming week as he needs only 2 goals to match Cory Pecker’s 53 goal campaign he set in 2001-2002.

Sarnia’s Reid Boucher topped the OHL in goal scoring last season, finishing with 62. He has played nearly 20 games this season for the NHL’s New Jersey Devils, scoring his first career NHL goal.

Erie faces the Kingston Frontenacs this Friday.
