Maroons Continue Pursuit
After Friday’s game in St. Thomas was postponed due to snow, the Chatham Maroons continued their pursuit of the GOJHL Western Conference’s top teams Sunday, picking up two points with a win over the Sarnia Legionnaires.
Chatham’s 5-1 win against Sarnia, brings the Maroons within two points of second place Leamington, but the Maroons could fall down the standings if the OHA imposed an expected two loss penalty to the Maroons for using an illegal player in a pair of wins earlier this year.
Sunday, Chatham focused on what they could control, and handled the Legionnaires. Trevor Richardson and James McEwan scored for the Maroons nine seconds apart in the first period to give the home team the early lead. Sarnia would strike back once in the opening period, but it would be their only goal of the game.
In the second, Charlie Izaguirre scored his first goal as a Chatham Maroon, before Adam Arseneault put the Maroons up by three.
Kyle Brothers capped off the scoring in the third period, keeping his amazing season alive.
The Maroons are back in action this Wednesday when they face the LaSalle Vipers.
