Minor Midget Cyclones Open Playoffs

The Chatham-Kent Cyclones Minor Midget opened their 2014 playoff season over the weekend with a pair of games against the Windsor Jr. Spitfires.

Saturday at Walpole Island the Cyclones won the opening game of their series, with a 5-2 victory over Windsor. In the first period, the Cyclones’ special teams gave Chatham-Kent the edge early. Brendan Harrogate opened the scoring on the powerplay, with assists going to Ross Krieger and Levi Tetrault. Later in the frame, Blair Derynck netted a shorthanded marker to put the Cyclones up by two.

Windsor would fight back to tie the game in the second period, but Krieger would score before the period was out to send Chatham-Kent to the third leading 3-2. In the third, Nick Delyser scored 16 second in, with assists to Harrogate and Tetrault, before Jarret Marks scored on the powerplay to ice the game for the Cyclones. Tetrault, a mobile defender from Pain Court, would pick up his third assist of the game on Marks’ goal.

Joseph Raaymakers stopped 28 of the 30 shots he faced in the game.

Sunday in Windsor, the Cyclones continued their domination of Windsor, picking up a 4-0 shutout win. Chatham needs only two points to close out their first round series against the Jr. Spitfires. Stats were not immediately available for this game, check back for updates.

In other minor midget ‘AAA’ action, Chatham’s Brendan Ritchie picked up an assist for the Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs in their opening playoff game, a 3-3 tie, against the Sun County Panthers.

The Chatham-Kent Cyclones finished the 2013-2014 regular season with a 12-13-7 record, good for fourth in the Alliance Hockey’s West Division.

Chatham-Kent features several prospects for the upcoming 2014 OHL draft including goalie Joseph Raaymakers, defenseman Levi Terault, and forwards Nick Delyser, Brendan Harrogate, and Brady Pataki.
