The Chatham Kia Outlaw Peewee C team took home Gold in Woodstock on the weekend, winning the Woodstock Wildcats Annual tournament.

After a rocky start and needing some help, the Outlaws woke up and brought home the title. In their opening game, facing the Bad Blazers Friday night, Amber Lather scored twice for the Outlaws, with Rachel Moretto assisting on both, but it wasn’t enough as BAD took the game 3-2. Jillian Hyatt stopped 14 of 17 shots in the loss.

Facing Ilderton in their second game Friday night, the Outlaws lost 5-1, with Lather again picking up Chatham’s goal, assisted by Jaiden Rollings.

Saturday morning, the Chatham Outlaws woke up and started winning, defeating host Woodstock 6-0. Emma Cobb was the winning goalie, recording the shutout. Playing with more passion and energy the team took it to the host Wildcats early and often and left little to doubt. Emily Barstead had 2 goals and 2 assists, while Chloe Pugh, Micah Morissette, and Moretto each had a goal and an assist, and Jaiden Rollings added the other goal. Ten Outlaws recorded at least 1 point in the victory.

Facing a must win situation against South Bruce, and needing some help from other games, the Outlaws came out firing on all cylinders once more early Sunday morning, defeating South Bruce 4-1. Barstead lead the way for the 2nd straight game, scoring 3 straight beautiful goals for the natural hat trick and all but put the game away by the 2nd period. Chloe Pugh scored Chatham’s 4th goal and that was more than enough for Jillian Hyatt who was stellar all game long, stopping 14 of 15 shots to record the win.

In a rematch of the opening game, Chatham would face the undefeated 1st place BAD Blazers in the Final, and it was the Jillian Hyatt show. Hyatt was phenomenal all game long, stopping all 19 shots that came her way including some point blank saves that kept Chatham in the game. That allowed Rachel Moretto to play the hero. Two and half minutes into overtime, Moretto blocked a shot at her own blue line, took the puck the other way, put a beautiful move on the defence before beating the BAD goalie on the stick side, giving the Outlaws a thrilling, hard fought 1-0 win and the Gold Medal.
