Sharks Hold Off Lakers

The Wheatley Sharks held off the Wallaceburg Lakers Monday night to take a 3-1 win in Great Lakes Junior C action.

Brett Bowman scored in first period of the game, while Wheatley’s defense held off the Lakers, maintaining the 1-0 lead until the third period.

A minute into the first, Scott Florence extended Wheatley’s lead, scoring a powerplay marker with assists going to Mike Reid and Cale Phibbs.

Wallaceburg would bounce back as captain Scott Lubbers got his team on the board. Wheatley however, wouldn’t wait long to score again as Thomas Virban scored less than a minute to regain Wheatley’s two goal lead.

Wallaceburg would manage only 13 shots against Sharks goaltender Everett Omstead.

Wallaceburg hosts Dresden this Wednesday, while Wheatley visits Amherstburg Sunday.

The Wallaceburg Lakers versus Amherstburg game that was cancelled due to weather conditions will be played Thursday, January 23 in Amherstburg at 7:30 start.
