U14 Thunder Roar To Gold
The girls started out strong, going 4-0 in round robin play, finishing in 1st place, with wins against Markham, Ottawa, Niagara Falls and Sudbury.
The semi-final game was a rematch with Niagara Falls that ended in repeat fashion, winning 4-2, and moving us into the medal game against Guelph.
The finale was an exciting game that had Chatham start out with a 2-0 lead early in the first period, only to have Guelph storm back to tie it up with 2 minutes left in the first. Not wanting to be outdone, the girls made it 3-2 just before the half, and then never looked back. Two more goals in the second period, made it 5-2, the final score in the gold medal game.
Leading the scoring was Rachel Benn, followed by Evelyn MacKay-Barr, Emily Raaymakers, Sorcha Rountree, and a continued team effort with points provided by every member of the squad. To compliment this, an outstanding effort was put in by the Thunder’s defense, and goalie, Olivia Eskritt.
This was the team’s third tournament of the year, earning them 8 more points towards their goal of earning an invitation to Provincials in March. Next up is the Ayr, Tournament of Hearts in February.
