Blenheim, Chatham Christian Win Semis

Blenheim-Bobcats-LogoThe Blenheim Bobcats and Chatham Christian Flames were the two top teams in the Kent Senior ‘A’ boys basketball regular season, and they staked their claim to those positions Thursday by winning their respective Kent semi-finals.

In Blenheim, the Bobcats faced stiff competition from the Pain Court Patriotes, who led 28-25 after three quarters, but battled back in the fourth quarter to take the 40-36 win.

As he has all season, Jared Hansen paced the Blenheim Bobcats offense, scoring an impressive 27-points in the win. Dylan Webster chipped in with 7-points for Blenheim, while Craig Oakey had 5-points. For Pain Court, Ben Brahlmen had 14-points in the losing effect, while Isaac Pinsonneault had 8, and Dominik North had 6.

In the other semi-final, the Chatham Christian Flames, who entered with tied in points with the Ridgetown Royals, but ahead in the standings on tie breakers, received balanced scoring to lead from start to finish, and secure their spot in the Kent final with a 54-38 win.

Mike Ball topped all scorers in the game collecting 21-points for CCHS, while Cam Koomans also hit double digits for the Flames with 14-points. Mike DeBoer and Steve Taekema also contributed to Chatham Christian’s offense with 7- and 5-points respectively. Sheldon Wright had 12-points, Marcus McEachren 10, and Dustin Pickard 5-points for Ridgetown.

The ‘A’ final will take place this Saturday at 7pm in Blenheim. The Bobcats will host after finishing first this season.
