Chatham-Kent January Athlete of the Month: Katreena Whiteye

After a week of voting, Ridgetown’s Katreena Whiteye has been selected as the Chatham-Kent January Athlete of the Month for 2014.

Whiteye is a grade 9 hockey player competing for both the UCC Lancers girls hockey team, and for the Bluewater Hawks Midget AA team. Whiteye, who hails from Moraviantown, dominated the public voting collecing 43% of the vote.

Whiteye helped the UCC Lancers to a perfect record this season, including a strong month of January. With the Lancers, Whiteye scored two goals in 5-0 win over Ridgetown January 16, had a goal and an assist in a January 13, 3-0 win over CKSS, and also collected a goal and an assist in a January 9, 5-2 win over Dresden.

In addition to high school hockey, Whiteye is the only 1999 born player competing on the Bluewater Hawks ‘AA’ team, which is filled with 1996-1998 born players. To kick off the month, Whiteye helped the Hawks to a silver medal at the Scarborough New Years Tournament.

The runner up, collecting 18% of the vote was Blenheim Bobcats basketball player Jared Hansen. Following Hansen in the vote was CKSS basketball player Ian Smart who gained 10% of the vote.
