Olympic gold medallist Clara Hughes will be visiting the John D. Bradley Chatham-Kent Convention Centre this March 16, as a part of her “Clara’s Big Ride” tour, during which she’ll travel 12,000km and visit 95 Canadian communities to promote awareness of, and raise funds for mental health initiatives across Canada.

Hughes, who spent time broadcasting for CBC at the recent Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics, has six Olympic medals in speed skating and cycling for Canada.

A member of the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame, Hughes is the national spokesperson for the Bell Let’s Talk Mental Health Initiative, and has openly struggled with depression in the past herself.

Her Chatham stop will be the third of her 110 day journey on Clara’s Big Ride. Locally, the money raised by her evening in Chatham will go to the Make Children Better Now Association.

Tickets for the evening at the John D. Bradley Convention Centre are $10, and include a dinner, as well as a presentation by Hughes. Dinner is served at 6:15pm, and Clara Hughes will speak at 7pm. Tickets are available at the Chatham-Kent Box Office or online at CKTickets.com.
