Ingrid Lahey is a long time coach, originally from Streetsville, Ontario, who has coached many Chatham-Kent teams to championships for more than three decades.

Currently coaching the Chatham Christian Flames senior girls volleyball team, who recently won the Kent ‘A’ title, Lahey has also coached badminton, basketball, track, and gymnastics.

In the past, Lahey coached high school sports at UCC, JMSS, WDSS, and Merlin, and has coached multiple teams with the Chatham Ballhawks volleyball club.

Inducted into the Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame in multiple categories, Lahey is also a multiple OFSAA gold medalist coach, and has been recognized with the OFSAA leadership award, and is a member of the OVA’s Quarter Century Club.

Below are Ingrid Lahey’s answers to CKSN’s questions about coaching:

1. What is your career coaching highlights/top memory?

Winning OFSAA gold in 1995 and having all the girls come back 19 years later to be inducted in the Wallaceburg Hall of Fame.

2. What is the biggest challenge you face as a coach?

Finding a balance between fun and competitiveness.

3. Why did you get into coaching?

3. For the love of the various sports and I enjoy helping young people.

4. Who was your favourite coach and why?

My husband, Dale, his knowledge helped our women’s volleyball team to provincial gold in 1989.

5. If you could give one piece of advice to other coaches what would it be?

Enjoy what you do when coaching and it will rub off on the players.
