Cook Brothers To Play Pro Baseball
The duo played with the Madonna University Crusaders last season in the NAIA. Both Matt Cook, a pitcher, and Justin Cook, a third baseman, were named NAIA conference First Team All-Stars.
Matt is a pitcher and Justin is a third baseman. The duo, who are both Lambton-Kent Composite School graduates in Dresden, are each going into their first pro season.
The Pecos league is an independent professional league, much like the league Chatham’s Larry Balkwill signed to earlier this winter, which features teams in five American states, with the White Sands PupFish playing out of Alamogordo, New Mexico.
This past summer, Matt Cook won a Canadian Senior Mens National Championship as a member of the Windsor Stars. Matt and his brother Justin had both previously won Junior National Championships with the Stars as well.
Along with being named a Wolverine-Hoosier Conference First Team All-Star last season, Justin Cook also received Conference Player of the Week honours in mid April.
In 2013 the PupFish went 26-43, good for third place in the Pecos League South Division.
The Cook’s and the White Sands PupFish will begin their 2014 season May 14 at home when they face the reigning champion Roswell Invaders.
