Leaving wake in their path, the Chatham-Kent Cyclones Minor Midget team are continuing to roll through the Alliance Hockey ‘AAA’ playoffs.

After eliminating the Windsor Jr. Spitfires in round one going 3-0-1, the Cyclones are off to a similar start to round two, going 1-0-1 over the weekend against the Huron-Perth Lakers.

Saturday to open their second round series, Chatham-Kent played to a 3-3 draw with Huron-Perth. Ties are allowed in the Alliance playoffs, as it is the first team to reach 6-points that advances.

The Cyclones waited until the third period to hit the scoresheet, as Ross Krieger scored to tie the game 1-1. Wallaceburg’s Brady Pataki then scored a pair to give the Cyclones a 3-1 lead, but they couldn’t hold on for the win, as Huron-Perth tied it up 3-3, which is how the game would end.

On Sunday, the Cyclones came out with more jump, getting first period goals from Pataki and Ryan Greenaway, and eventually took home a 6-3 win to give Chatham-Kent a series lead.

Brendan Harrogate scored in the second frame, but Chatham-Kent allowed the Lakers to tie the game 3-3. In the third, it was all Chatham-Kent as Blair Derynck scored a pair, and Nolan Gardiner scored the other to cap the game 6-3.

The Chatham-Kent Cyclones Minor Midgets will travel to Huron-Perth this Friday for game three of their series, will host Huron-Perth Saturday at 2:45pm at Memorial Arena Saturday, and if necessary, will return to Huron-Perth Sunday.
