Dick Scores Winner, Blades In Command
The Blenheim Blades needed overtime heroics to take a 2-0 series lead over the Mooretown Flags in their first round Great Lakes Junior C playoff series.
Mackenzie Dick scored the overtime winner on fresh ice, only 58 seconds into the extra frame to lift the Blenheim Blades to a 3-2 win over Mooretown.
To open the game, Brett Thompson scored, with the assist going to former Wallaceburg Lakers forward Sam Jasmin, to give Mooretown the early lead. Later in the first, Dylan Muzzatti knotted the game at 1-1 scoring a powerplay marker. A pair of former Chatham Maroons defenders, Connor Annett and Ben Pataki assisted on the goal. The defensive pair both played the majority of the season with the Maroons this year.
In the second, Thompson and Jasmin set up Spencer Bronzi to give the Mooretown Flags their second lead of the game. Blenheim however would bounce back again, with veteran Justin Rossignol tying the game.
After a scoreless third period, which saw Blenheim goalie Eric Stewardson of Chatham turn away 13 shots, it was up to Dick to net the winner early in overtime.
Blenheim will host Mooretown Sunday at 7:15pm for game three of the series, before it returns to Mooretown Wednesday, and back to Blenheim Thursday, if necessary.
