Drew Marlatt Named Great Lakes Rookie of the Year

Blenheim-Blades-RedChatham, Ontario’s Drew Marlatt has been named the Great Lakes Junior C Hockey League rookie of the year for 2013-2014.

The 16-year-old, who attends Chatham-Kent Secondary School, scored more than a point per game this season, collecting 21-goals and 18-assists for 39-points in 36 games.

Marlatt, who was the Great Lakes Player of the Month in October, played last season for the Chatham-Kent Cyclones Minor Midget ‘AAA’ team, and also for the CKSS Golden Hawks high school team.

Marlatt was a 9th round selection of the Windsor Spitfires in last year’s OHL draft.

Also winning at the annual award banquet in Blenheim, was Alvinston’s Dan Warner, who was named the league’s MVP, while Alvinston defenseman Clint Rose was named the Great Lakes Defenseman of the Year.

The Great Lakes playoffs continue this weekend as Blenheim takes on Mooretown, Dresden plays Essex, Wheatley faces Alvinston, and Belle River squares off with Amherstburg.
