The Dresden Kings couldn’t upset the powerful Essex 73s, and found themselves swept in the opening round of the Great Lakes Junior C playoffs following Monday’s 4-3 loss.

After falling behind 1-0 in the opening period, Mike Myers scored in the second to get the Dresden Kings on the board. Rookie Dede Cato, who has been one of the Kings’ best players in the series, also scored for the Kings to make the scored 4-2 after two frames.

In the third, Blake Padbury scored for Dresden to pull his Kings within one, but they wouldn’t be able to complete the comeback as Essex goalie Jacob Kment would shut the door.

Essex now awaits their second round opponent, while Dresden says goodbye to veteran captain Jeff Vanrabaeys, and fellow overagers Jeremy Griffore, Andrew France, and Brent Paxton.
