The Chatham Maroons wasted no time in their opening round series asserting themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the GOJHL playoffs. The Maroons, facing the Strathroy Rockets, picked up a 5-3 victory to open the playoffs.

In the first period, GOJHL veteran and all-time active scoring leader Adam Arseneault scored to give the Maroons an early lead, with assists going to fellow former Lambton Shores Predators Kyle Brothers, and Connor Annett. Arseneault would finish the game with three points.

Strathroy would tie it at one in the first, and would take an early 2-1 lead in the second before, before Chatham’s Trevor Richardson struck on the powerplay to tie the game 1-1. Richardson’s goals would open the floodgates for the Maroons with Michael Verboom and Tanner Ferguson scoring before the frame was over.

Kyle Brothers would score to open the third, making it four unanswered goals for Chatham. Strathroy would get one back late, but it was too little, too late for the Rockets as Chatham held on for the 5-3 win.

Jacob Keogh took the win in net stopping 31 shots.

The Chatham Maroons and Strathroy Rockets play game two of their series Saturday, March 1 at 7:30pm in Strathroy.
