Rainey Finds New Opportunities In GMHL
“I would describe it as great,” said Rainey about his experience playing in the Independent Junior A league. “It is a fantastic program and I love it.”
Rainey has suited up for three teams this year, starting with the Seguin Huskies, before moving to the Powassan Eagles, and now, with the Toronto Attack. Known as a forward locally, Rainey has been playing the blueline this season, and has collected 3 goals and 10 assists through 14 games.
According to Rainey, it was the opportunity to advance and get exposure that lured him to the league this season.
“What made me decide to play in this league was that it is highly scouted and it is one of the best programs outside of the OHL,” says Rainey. “The GMHL is a lot faster and a different playing style,” said Rainey, comparing the league to the hockey he was used to in Chatham-Kent. “The GMHL is still up and coming, but don’t be surprised to hear it more in the future.”
For Rainey, the decision is already paying off, as he’s received attention from both professional and college teams.
“I have received a couple pro camp invites, so I’m going to try there first, and if not I am going to finish my junior hockey career in the GMHL,” said Rainey about his future hockey plans, who also had ACHA offers from the University of Michigan-Dearborn and Arizona State.
Rainey was one of three former Wallaceburg Lakers to join the GMHL this season, as Bobby Domin and Jeff Nolfo both play for the first place Seguin Huskies.
Rainey and the Toronto Attack finish their regular season February 16 against Bobcaygen.
