Sharks Eliminate Flyers, Blades Advance
The Wheatley Sharks were the first, and possibly only, Chatham-Kent team to advance to the second round of the Great Lakes Junior C playoffs, as they eliminated the Alvinston Flyers in game six of their opening round series.
Eric Rivard opened the scoring in the first to open the scoring, on a pass from Shawn Hope.
Zach Wilson would make it 2-0, before Brendon Anger scored a pair to make it 4-0 for the Sharks.
After Alvinson fought back in the second period, Cale Phibbs and Jimmy Ciaceli continued to pour on he offense for Wheatley to close out the 6-3 win, and send Wheatley on to round 2.
In Mooretown Saturday night, the Blenheim Blades closed out their series with the Mooretown Flags after allowing the Flags to creep back into contention.
Blenheim would fall behind 2-0 after Matt Brandon and Brett Thompson scored for the Flags. Kellen Kaniecki would score a pair in the second for Blenehim to even the score before Cam Aitken and Derek Muzzatti scored in the third to lift the Blades to a 4-2 win, and advance them to the second round.
