The Chatham-Kent Cyclones Minor Midget ‘AAA’ team split their opening games at the 2014 OHL Cup, a showcase tournament of the provinces top Minor Midget teams.

After winning their way into the tournament by defeating the Brantford 99ers, Chatham-Kent wasted no time by defeating the Mississauga Senators in their OHL Cup opener. After falling behind 1-0, the Cyclones fought back on goals by Jarrett Marks, Ross Krieger, and Ryan Greenaway, to take a 3-1 victory.

Marks, who also had an assist in the opening game, had a big performance in the Cyclones’ second game, scoring twice in a 6-5 loss to the Ottawa Valley Titans.

Blair Derynck, Brett Barnes, and Kyle Fife had the other Chatham-Kent Cyclones goals, while Levi Tetrault, Nolan Gardiner, and Brady Pataki each had two assists.

The Cyclones will play the South Central Coyotes Thursday, and the Peterborough Petes Friday to close out the tournament.

This is the first time a Chatham-Kent Cyclones Minor Midget entry has qualified for the OHL Cup.
