Major Bantam Chatham-Kent Wildcats win silver – Contributed Photo

The Major Bantam Chatham-Kent Wildcats basketball team travelled to Blessed Sacrament over the weekend to face the provinces top 60 teams, and came away with a Division II bronze.

Chatham-Kent opened the tournament with a 48-35 win over the Flamborough Fire. Emily Kirkpatrick had 10-points, while Avia Stone had 8-points, 8 rebounds, and 6 steals in the win. Jade Barko also chipped in with 7-points in the victory.

Facing Durham City in their second game, the Wildcats handed their opponent 45-32, paced by Kirkpatrick’s 12-point, 13 board, double-double. Jade Barko had 7-points and 6 rebounds, while Sami Vlasman had 6-points.

Game three of the tournament saw the Major Bantam Chatham-Kent Wildcats drop their first game of the tournament. Facing a tough Gloucester Wolverines squad, the Wildcats were edged 45-43 to end pool play wiht a 2-1 record. Kirkpatrick had 11-points and 11 rebounds, while Avia Stone had 9-points, 7 boards and 3 steals. Jessica Jordan also had a well rounded game, scoring 8-points, and collecting 7 rebounds and 3 steals.

In the semi-final, the Wildcats had their lowest offensive output of the tournament, falling 40-25 to the Tecumseh Saints. Carol Tran topped all Chatham-Kent scorers with 6-points.

Facing the Gloucester Wolverines again in the Bronze medal game, Chatham-Kent found a way to win, and took the bronze with a 55-40 victory. Avia Stone had 11-points in the win, while Sammi Vlasman had 11-points.
