Ridgetown-Blenheim Chiefs One Win From OMHA Finals

RB-ChiefsThe Ridgetown-Blenheim Chiefs started their OMHA Juvenile semi-finals series this past weekend, taking two of three games against Douro.

Starting on the road in Douro in game one, the Chiefs got off to a hot start taking the series opener 6-3. Scoring for the Chiefs were Matt Clark with two, Josh Paine, Derrick VanEvery, Matt Fluery and Josh Pickering, each with one. The assists went to Kurt Beecroft and Derrick VanEvery, each with two, and Matt Fleury, Carson Edwards and Chad Phillips rounding out the assists. Josh Beecroft got the win for the Chiefs between the pipes.

Game two was played in Ridgetown in front of a packed crowd. The Ridgetown-Blenheim Chiefs came out flying and skated to a 4-1 win. Alex Gardiner scored twice, while Matt Fluery and Kurt Beecroft rounded out the scoring. Getting the assists were Robert Towsley, Matt Fluery and Derrick VanEvery. Brandan Joyce was in net for the Chiefs and took the win.

For game three the stands in Ridgetown were again packed hoping for a Chiefs sweep. Unfortunately, it was not in the cards. The Chiefs didn’t find themselves in the referee’s good books, and went shorthanded fourteen times in this game. The Douro Dukes took advantage and scored three times while on the powerplay. Brandan Joyce stood on his head in this game and kept the Chiefs in the game. The Dukes scored twice more in the third as the Chiefs were shorthanded nine times in the period. Next game is in Douro on Friday.

With a win, the RB Chiefs would advance to the OMHA final.
