Sweep! Maroons Eliminate Rockets In OT

The Chatham Maroons have swept their opening round playoff series, defeating the Strathroy Rockets 4-0 in the GOJHL Western Conference playoffs.

Chatham won the deciding game Tuesday on the road

As he has been all season, Kyle Brothers was an offensive force for the Maroons, opening the scoring only 14 seconds into the game on a feed from Adam Arseneault to give Chatham the 1-0 lead. Midway through the first period, rookie James McEwan potted another for Chatham, adding to their lead, this time with assists going to Jared Dennis and Steven Szekesy.

After Strathroy scored three straight goals in the second Michael Verboom scored a shorthanded marker from Dennis to tie things up 3-3, heading to the third.

In the third frame, the two teams traded goals, with Arseneault and Dennis each netting a goal, making the score 5-5 heading to overtime.

Only three minutes into the extra frame, the brooms came out as Adam Arseneault scored his second of the game, clinching the sweep for the Maroons in four straight games.

Chatham will now wait for the remaining series’ to finish to learn their second round opponent. Leamington has already advanced after similarly sweeping the St. Mays Lincolns.
