Goosney Named St. Clair TIDP Head Coach
The U14 Talent Identification and Development Program (TIDP), which runs as a part of Basketball Ontario, will have a local face at the helm of the St. Clair regional team, as Chatham’s Tracey Goosney will be the team’s head coach this summer.
Goosney has been a coach with the Chatham-Kent Wildcats organization since 2009, and helped coach the Novice and Major Bantam Girls teams this winter, who both had excellent showings across the Province.
According to Goosney, who watched the TIDP in action last year, the program is an exceptional opportunity for athletes to refine their skills, and advance to the next level.
“Last summer was my first real exposure to the TIDP program as it was the first year for many of the girls I have coached over the past years,” said Goosney. “I saw so much development in the girls over the course of the 3 months, it was outstanding. Players from multiple clubs are brought together with one goal, to develop skills as they bond and form friendships in the love of the game,” continued Goosney.
Selected by an OBA committee, Goosney will begin to select her St. Clair team this week, as tryouts occur Thursday, April 24 at the University of Windsor, and continue Tuesday, April 29 at Chatham Christian School.
According to Goosney, who will select her team from a region that encompasses Windsor, Sarnia, and stretches East to West Lorne, the Chatham-Kent area should be well represented by players at the tryouts, and on the St. Clair roster.
“I absolutely do think the CK will represent well,” said Goosney. “We had great finishes at the Ontario Cup this season, have amazing talent and girls who spend time in the gym every day who are committed to developing their skills at a higher level, with the goals of continuing to play for their Club teams, High School, and even College and University.”
CKSN will have updates on the St. Clair TIDP team as it is selected.
