With one week left in the Kent Junior Football season, the Wallaceburg Tartans have two teams nipping at their heels in the standings.

The Blenheim Bobcats made a statement win over the UCC Lancers Friday, taking a 23-14 win. Holding a 17-0 lead at the half, Blenheim got touchdowns from Tanner Shuian, who carried the ball over 100 yards Friday, including a two-yard touchdown run.

Ashton Baker, who has been a key cog in Blenheim’s offense this season, also caught a Shuian pass taking the ball 64-yards for a touchdown. Also scoring for Blenheim was Matt Lee, while Mo Ibari had over 100 yards on the ground, and kicked a 22-yard field goal for Blenheim.

Owen Dorssers and Cole Gregg scored UCC’s touchdowns in the losing effort.

Also closing in on Wallaceburg are the John McGregor Panthers, who kept the CKSS Golden Hawks winless, picking up a 33-7 win Friday.

Alex Formosa had three touchdowns for the McGregor Panthers in the win, while Clay Shreeve had the other Panthers’ touchdowns.

The regular season will close out Wednesday as the Blenheim Bobcats take on the Wallaceburg Tartans, and the John McGregor Panthers face the UCC Lancers. A variety of win-loss combinations remain where Wallaceburg, who currently sits in first, Blenheim, or John McGregor could still finish first.

CKSS is the only team to finish their season this week, finishing in fifth place, eliminated from playoff contention.
