Chatham-Kent April Athlete of the Month Voting

VoteBelow are CKSN’s nominees for the April 2014 Chatham-Kent Athlete of the Month.

Voting will continue until Wednesday, May 7, with the winner being named Thursday, May 8. Poll votes, comments below, as well as Facebook comments (www.facebook.com/cksportsnetwork) and Twitter Retweets (www.twitter.com/cksportsnetwork) will be counted as votes. Nominees in Alphabetical Order and Monthly Highlights:

Bridget Carleton (Chatham) – Won Kent and SWOSSAA badminton with John McGregor Panthers partner Ashley Herfst, as well as other local tournaments, advancing to OFSAA badminton. As a member of the London Ramblers JUEL basketball team, led the Ramblers to a perfect 7-0 record in April. Carleton was dominant with the Ramblers in those games, averaging 22.2 points per game, and 9.4 rebounds per game.

Travis Konecny (Clachan) – Had 4 goals and 5 points in the IIHF World Under-18 Championships, helping Canada to a bronze medal. He was Canada’s leading goal scorer in the tournament, and had a goal and an assist in the bronze medal game.

Chad Laprise (Chatham) – Won The Ultimate Fighter Nations title, earning a contract in the UFC. Defeated Olivier Aubin-Mercier by a split decision in the final, and also earned Fight of the Season, and Performance of the Season honours from The Ultimate Fighter.

Brandon Montour (Tilbury) – A defenseman with the Waterloo Black Hawks of the United States Hockey League, Montour had a team leading 4 goals and 7 assists in 5 playoff games in April against Sioux City. He was also +7 over that stretch, and scored a hat trick in Waterloo’s playoff opener. In the final two games of his regular season in early April, Montour had a goal and 3 assists.

Sheridan Rogers (Chatham) – Won UCC Invitational Badminton Tournament and was the Kent Champion in Senior Girls Singles badminton. Helped Kent Chaos win Division II, Tier I Ontario Cup volleyball gold.

Bailey Walker (Thamesville) – Playing for the UCC Lancers girls rugby team, helped her team to a perfect start to their 2014 season in April, including capturing the UWO Tournament title, where she was named tournament MVP. Walker is a leader in yardage gains for the Lancers, and according to coaches, in setting up all of her team’s scoring drives.
