Junior boys high school football started their season Friday when the Wallaceburg Tartans hosted the JMSS Panthers.

The Panthers powerful defence caused some troubles for the Tartans in the first quarter, forcing most of the play to remain in Wallaceburg’s end.

Despite both teams strong effort in the first quarter they were unable to put points on the scoreboard.

The Tartans’ offense came out strong in the second quarter when Trevor Bogaert carried the ball into the end zone, giving Wallaceburg their first points on the scoreboard.

Bogaert gave the Tartans another seven points when he carried the ball from Wallaceburg’s eight-yard line.

Wallaceburg continued their strong play as Bogaert pushed his way past the Panthers defence, which gave the Tartans a 21 to nothing lead.

The Panthers were not ready to quit before half time as they put their first points on the board.

At the end of the first half the Tartans had a 21-7 lead over the Panthers.

The Tartans forceful defence kept John McGregor in their own end getting a two-point safety in the first minutes of the forth quarter.

Parker Gilhuly gave the Tartans a 30-7 lead after he rushed the ball into the Panthers end zone.

The Tartans took the win with a score of 30-7.

Wallaceburg’s head coach Rob MacLachlan says his only expectations for this season is to improve his young team. “We need to improve,” says MacLachlan.

“We have a lot of players that have never played before. We have to get better every week. I think offensively, were a little bit more a head then we are defensively so I think we really have to improve on our defensive side.”

Wallaceburg will travel to Chatham Friday, May 9th to take on the CKSS Golden Hawks.

In other Kent football action, the UCC Lancers defeated the CKSS Golden Hawks 21-6.
