VanDamme Plays In Red Devils Loss
Despite a tough night for the Wallaceburg Red Devils in Ontario Junior B Lacrosse action Thursday night, one athlete accomplished a first, as Emily VanDamme made history stepping into the net for Wallaceburg.
Replacing Red Devils starter Noble Jacobs for the third period of play in a 15-4 loss, VanDamme played well in relief according to head coach Jamie Knight.
“Noble played first 2 periods then Emily in the 3rd,” said Knight. “She played well considering the effort we put in. I was happy with her.”
VanDamme became the first known woman to play men’s Junior B lacrosse in Ontario.
Knight however, was not happy with the overall performance of the Red Devils, and says the team will need to put in a better effort this weekend as they face Guelph Saturday and Brampton Sunday as a part of a double home opening weekend.
“We need to refocus and be ready for Saturday,” said Knight.
Mike Myers scored twice in the loss, while Evan Mathany and Mitch Gagnier each had a goal and an assist.
