After a difficult schedule last weekend, several Chatham-Kent Cougars teams found their stride this week, picking up wins.

Chatham-Kent Bantam Cougars

The Bantam Cougars rebounded from last week with a 52-13 victory over the North Halton Crimson Tide. Seth Bowers got the Cougars off to an impressive start with a forced fumble and recovery on the first play from scrimmage. From there the Cougars controlled the line of scrimmage both offensively and defensively for the remainder of the game.

Jarret Millard led the offense with 2 touchdown passes, one a 24 yard touchdown pass to Jonny Cartier the second a 5 yard TD pass to Liam Henderson. Patrick Ezewski scored a 25 yard touchdown on well designed reverse along with touchdowns from Brendon Bondy, Jonny Cartier and Liam Henderson, rounding out the scoring for the Cougars.

Defensively the Cougars played almost flawless giving up a touchdown on a kick off and another late in the game. Patrick Ezewski lead the defense with 9 tackles, while Lucas Doyle had 7, and Garret Stonefish 5. Owen Turner once again was steler for the Cougars with 90 yards rushing and a touchdown. Conner Wright was also a standout making several blocks.

Chatham-Kent Peewee Cougars

The Peewee Cougars improved their record again, to remain undefeated and move into first in the OFC with a victory over the Burlington Stampeders 28-0 in Burlington.

Darion Bacik opened the game with a tremendous kickoff that put Burlington in poor field position. After the defense stopped Burlington on 3 downs, Burlington conceded a safety. That would be the game winning play since the Cougar defense didn’t allow a score. This was their 2nd shutout of the season. Aiden Legroulx was the leading tackler with 11 tackles, and Ethan Ciupka had 9 tackles, while Tanner Hoorelbeck, Evan Torres, and Russell Jacques all had 6 tackles. Quinton Emerick had an outstanding game at safety and as the lone punt returner. Emerick had 74 yards in 3 returns.

After the safety, Cougars had a nice drive that ended with a 14 yard passing TD from Ethan Jordan to Nolan Larouche. In the second quarter, Darion Bacik came in as QB and he threw a 53 yard TD pass to Ethan Jordan on a long pass between defenders. That same quarter, Ethan Jordan at QB connected on 42 yard TD to Connor Roebuck.

In the middle 3rd quarter, Darion Bacik had an 11 yard run up the middle blowing the game wide open.

The offensive line was the key to the win, allowing the QBs time in the pocket to allow the Cougars to attack in the air. T O-line is anchored by Jake Deneau, Alex Sullo, Tyler Creachan, Trevor Lawton, Tate O’Leary, Nicholas Philips, and Noble Stonefish.

Hunter Shepley was 2 for 4 on extra points and late in the game Shepley had a key interception.

The Peewee Cougars travel to Vaughan to play the Rebels next week.

Chatham-Kent Junior Cougars

The Chatham-Kent Junior Cougars continued to struggle, playing their first game together following the Kent high school football season as they fell to Guelph 38-8.

Offensively Kelton Evans went 11/22 for 174 yards and 1 TD pass of 56 yards to Jake Anderson. Anderson had 80 receiving yards, while Nolan Ball had five catches for 58-yards. Ethan Baylis picked up 45 yards on the ground, as did Spencer Mason, while Brendan Marr had 78 rushing yards.

Defensively, Colin Hoorelbeck had 6 tackles a sack and a fumble recovery, while Eric Penney had 8 tackles, Ricky O’Rourke 9, Quentin Forgie 6, Alex Formosa 7, Nolan Hakr 5, and Desi Rush 4

“We didn’t play very well in the first half, shooting ourselves in the foot numerous times,” says Junior coach Kevin Pugh. “The boys were challenged at half time to finish strong and they did exactly that, with no miscues or penalties. Give Guelph credit, they are a very good football team and played a very clean and classy game. Eric Penney needs to be noted today, as his play has been amazing the last two weeks, his effort on the field is incredible.”

Chatham-Kent Senior Cougars

The Chatham-Kent Senior Cougars fell to Guelph 39-13, remaining winless on the season.

Nate MacIntyre had a 90 yard kick-off return for a touchdown, with Trevor Niven kicking the convert. Markus Shadd had the other Cougars points on a 73 yard pass reception for a touchdown, thrown by Jalen Butcher.
