Panthers, Lancers Combine For High School Softball Title

The John McGregor Panthers and Ursuline College Lancers combined to win the Ontario Provincial Women’s Softball Association high school championship Monday in Oakville.

The team consisted of Madison Goodwin, Kendra Goodwin, Carys Owen, Hannah Roesch and Vicki Iantosca of John McGregor with UCC’s Aliyah Whiteye, Katreena Whiteye, Sydnee Baker, Lauren Nicholson and Madisson Alexander.

In the gold medal game, the team defeated Petrolia Lambton Central 9-8. Laura Nicholson hit 3 singles, Madison Goodwin doubled and singled, while Aliyah Whiteye had 2 singles. The winning pitcher was Aliyah Whiteye, allowing 8 runs in 4 plus innings

To advance to the final, the Chatham team played a very strong defensive game to beat Georgetown Christ the King 8-0 in the semis. Laura Nicholson homered and Katreena Whiteye hit 2 singles. Hannah Roesch was the winning pitcher, allowing only 2 hits in the shutout.

In pool play, the girls went 2-0 starting with a 12-5 win over Hagersville. Owen tripled twice, Alexander doubled twice and Madison Goodwin tripled. Then, the combined team beat Woodstock St. Mary’s 10-0 in three innings. Aliyah Whiteye threw a no-hitter and struck out 5. Nicholson hit 2 doubles and Aliyah Whiteye had two singles.
