Peewee Cougars Remain Undefeated, Clinch First
“Cesar Torres has done an excellent job giving this team a goal to work towards,” says Cougars president Selwyn Jordan of the Peewee coach and reason for the team’s success this season, “and the players are doing all they can to reach it.”
The Cougars however, have one hurdle left to cross int the 2014 season, facing second place Burlington this weekend.
“Big game this week against Burlington,” says Jordan. “We all know Burlington will be ready. This will be a great challenge for our players to be prepared.”
The Chatham-Kent Cougars’ Defense scored all the points necessary for the win against Forest City Sunday, when Darion Bacik intercepted a pass and returned it 30-yards for a touchdown on Forest City’s first possession.
Chatham-Kent’s defence was led by Ethan Ciupka’s 9 tackles. Tanner Hoorelbeck and Adien LeGroulx each had 5 tackles and 2 quarterback sacks. Bacik had 5 tackles & 2 interceptions. Evan Torres made 5 tackles and Quinton Emirick made 3 tackles and an interception.
The Cougars used a balanced offense to score 4 touchdowns. Ethan Ciupka led the way on 7 rushes for 72 yards and 2 touchdowns. Nakoma Scott ran the ball 7 times for 49 yards and 1 touchdown, while Ethan Jordan finished 2/5 passing for 52 yards and one touchdown. Bennett Schaffer had 2 catches 52 yards and a touchdown, and Bacik rounded out the scoring with a 2 point convert and 2 extra points.
