Sophia Vlasman Remembered

Chatham-Kent lost Sophia Elizabeth Vlasman, who passed peacefully on Friday June 6th, 2014 at 11:11am. The 16-year-old UCC student was battling cancer, and inspired her community, including the Chatham-Kent sports community, through her hope, courage and strength.

“She is now our beautiful angel and is no longer in pain,” wrote Sophia’s parents Jodi and John Vlasman in her obituary. “Her 16 years here seem so short, yet she touched so many. Her dream of being a teacher was fulfilled by teaching us all what living really was about.”

Among those touched by Sophia Vlasman, were her numerous teammates with the Chatham-Kent Wildcats and UCC Lancers’ basketball teams, and her Ursuline College cheerleading team.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects to Sophia and the Vlasman family on Monday, June 9th from 1 to 9 pm at the Alexander & Houle Funeral Home at 245 Wellington in Chatham.
