Carleton On Short List For Canada’s Junior Team
“The coaching staff has been in touch with the players monitoring their progress and everyone is extremely excited about the upcoming training camp,” says Rich Chambers, head coach of the team, discussing what he is looking forward to and the team’s goals moving forward. “We have had an opportunity to work with many of the athletes at training camps in December and March and are confident we can put a very competitive team on the floor at the FIBA Americas Championships,” said Chambers.
The camp, which will run until July 31 in Oshawa at Durham College, will select Canada’s National Junior Team, which will compete in the FIBA Americas U18 Championship for Women in Colorado Springs, USA. The competition runs from August 6 to August 10.
Although the camp will run for two weeks, the team is expected to be announced early next week. After that, according to Chambers, his team will be preparing for their next challenge.
“Our goal since December has been to qualify for next year’s World Championships and all our efforts will be focused on that goal for the next six weeks,” says Chambers, of his team, who’s tryout roster currently includes 15 players.
Carleton, a six-foot-one guard, played for the London JUEL Ramblers basketball team this winter, as well as for her John McGregor Secondary School Panthers senior basketball team. Carelton is committed to play for Iowa State in NCAA Division I basketball in 2015-2016.
