EviroClean Chatham-Kent Cougar of the Week: Jalen Butcher
Butcher paced his Chatham-Kent Cougars Senior Varsity team to their first win of the season, a 44-0 drubbing of the Niagara Storm in week 8 of the OFC season. Butcher threw for 295-yards, totalling five touchdowns.
“A great performance by a young QB, just coming into his own,” said Varsity head coach Jeff Green. “Jalen was very poised…and delivered the ball to a host of receivers.”
Butcher, a John McGregor Secondary School student, also ran for 30-yards in the win.
“Jalen Butcher has a University arm and is extremely athletic,” explains Cougars president Selwyn Jordan of Butcher. “In this game, Jalen has been improving from week to week, and he definitely put everything all together to have his best performance as a Cougar QB.”
“Jalen is a multi sport athlete, so we are very appreciative for his parents Melinda, Corkie and Uncle Kevin Butcher making football practices and games a priority for his teammates. We are looking forward to Jalen returning next year and building on his strong season,” continued Jordan.
Butcher also had a noteworthy performance in week 7, throwing for 246-yards, and connecting for two touchdowns.
The Chatham-Kent Cougars senior varsity team and Jalen Butcher will close out their 2014 season this weekend as they travel to play the Burlington Stampeders.
