Chatham’s Andy Fantuz returned from a concussion, suffered in the Canadian Football League preseason, to play his first regular season game action of the year Friday for the Hamilton Tiger Cats.

Entering his ninth professional season, all spent in the CFL, Fantuz made 7 catches for a total of 59 yards Friday, as his Hamilton Tiger Cats fell to the Calgary Stampeders 10-7, with the spread coming on a fourth quarter field goal by Calgary.

“After maybe 10 days I stopped feeling bad so I started activity and anytime I felt something come on or I felt a little off I took a step back,” said Fantuz in a CFL.ca release about his recuperation. “Everyday I just progressed a little bit more and more. A week after being symptom-free, progressing every day I was pretty much back to working out and running fully.”

Fantuz showed off his health Friday, after missing Hamilton’s first two games, as the top Tiger Cats player in receiving yards and receptions.

This was Fantuz’s second career concussion, with the first coming in 2012.

He’ll continue to practice with the team in preparation for their game this Saturday, July 26, when the Tiger Cats host Ottawa at the newly constructed Tim Hortons Field. Hamilton is currently last in the CFL with an 0-3 record.
