Chatham’s Brad Hockin won a gold medal this past weekend as a member of Team Ontario 19U at the National Team Challenge Cup volleyball tournament in Gatineau, Quebec.

The Team Ontario 19U team opened the tournament finishing atop their pool in round robin action, sweeping British Columbia, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Quebec 2 in three games each, with their closest match coming against British Columbia, a 25-22, 25-20, 25-16 sweep.

Receiving a first round bye in the playoff round, Team Ontario 19U played New Brunswick in the semi-finals, defeating their opponents 25-18, 26-24, 25-20 to advance to the championship match against Alberta.

Hockin, a Chatham-Kent Secondary School graduate where he won multiple OFSAA golds, again helped Team Ontario 19U to a sweep, having never dropped a game en route to their gold medal. Team Ontario 19U defeated Alberta 25-20, 28-26, 25-23 to win the National Team Challenge Cup gold.

Next season, Hockin, who played his club volleyball with the London Volleyball Club this year, will attend Western University where he’ll play for the Mustangs varsity men’s volleyball team.
