Blenheim’s Breanne Nicholas will again suit up for Team Canada this summer, as she has been selected to represent Canada at the 2014 International University Sports Federation (FISU) Rugby Sevens Championship.

The FISU Sevens tournament will take place in Sao Jose de Campos, Brazil, from August 8-10.

“After years of dedicated hard work and continuous effort, I am honoured to be playing rugby for Team Canada again,” Nicholas said in a Wester Mustangs news release about being named to Team Canada. “Being named to the 2014 FISU Rugby Sevens team is a huge accomplishment for me, and is an important stepping stone to reaching my goals as a rugby player. I look forward to this opportunity and experience.”

Last summer, Nicholas helped Team Canada win the U20 Nations Cup in England.

A rookie in the OUA last season with the Western University Mustangs, Nicholas scored seven tries and made five conversions for 45 points, leading the Mustangs, and was named the Shiels Division Rookie of the Year honours, and was also a Shiels Division All-Star.

The former Blenheim District High School student has been playing club rugby in London this summer.

The FISU tournament is the premier Rugby Sevens event for current university athletes, or athletes who graduated in the prior season, and serves as a feeder system for National teams.
